Melissa Monteith

Biography

Melissa Monteith is an award-winning writer, seasoned educator, and owner of Word Beacon Creative Studio. With more than 20 years in education and a lifelong passion for storytelling, she brings both heart and humor to her work. Her writing has appeared in Chicken Soup for the Soul for Teachers, and she is an AWAI International Scriptwriting Award winner.

Melissa’s greatest lessons, however, come from raising her daughter with disabilities. Life in the trenches of paperwork, waiting lists, and red tape has taught her what it truly means to advocate, fight, and keep going when the system feels stacked against you. The exhaustion is real, the frustrations constant, and every victory—hard-won.

That lived experience is the heartbeat of Bootcamp for the Brave. Melissa doesn’t just write about transition—she’s lived it. Through uncertainty and resilience, she’s learned that persistence and humor are as essential as hope.

Her guiding mantra says it best: “Boots on. Chin up. Forward is the only direction.”

Melissa holds a bachelor’s in Communication Arts from Warner University and a master’s in Education from Antioch University, with certifications from the American Writers and Art Institute. She lives in Massachusetts with her daughter and their spunky silver lab, who keeps life interesting.
